Brainwave entrainment is a method to stimulate the brain into entering a specific state by using a pulsing sound, light, or electromagnetic field. The pulses elicit the brain’s ‘frequency following’ response, encouraging the brainwaves to align to the frequency of a given beat.

If you haven’t heard about them then you’re missing out. Binaural beats are becoming one of the most popular tools for simplifying your life, reaching altered states of consciousness, and having experiences that are beyond our imagination.
Binaural beats are a special tool that use technology known as brainwave entrainment. They play two tones in each ear and the different frequency between the two tones is what our brainwave frequencies entrain to.
Why are our brainwave frequencies important?
Well everything we experience, every emotion we have, how energetic and motivated we are, how good our memory is, how much creative inspiration we have, is all dependent on our brainwave frequencies. By using binaural beats to influence these brainwaves, we are able to control what we experience.
So what can binaural beats be used for?
Well since every single thing that we experience is based on our brainwave frequencies, binaural beats have been created for just about anything you can think of. Whether it’s metaphysical experiences such as astral projection and lucid dreaming, bringing out your creative spirit, enhancing your learning abilities and memory recall, improving your mood, getting off that couch to get motivated, there is a binaural beat designed for that exact purpose.
Is there any science behind brainwave entrainment?
Binaural beats were created and have continuously been tested by scientists for many decades. By using a machine called an EEG, scientists and researchers are able to study the brainwave frequencies of human beings and create the exact needed recording for specific purposes.
How to use these recordings
Binaural beats are extremely simple to use. The first and most important thing before trying any is to make sure that they are quality recordings. There are a lot of cheaply made recordings that do not work. Do your homework and find a trusted site. After you have chosen the recording you want to use, all you have to do is throw on some headphones and relax. The binaural beats will do the rest.
Although they will work better if you focus on the sounds of the recordings, even if your busy and preoccupied your subconscious will hear it. Usually it takes an average of 8 minutes to fully entrain your brainwaves but this is user dependent. Some people are more open to suggestion will others mind are more stubborn.
Brainwave entrainment is a method to stimulate the brain into entering a specific state by using a pulsing sound, light, or electromagnetic field. The pulses elicit the brain’s ‘frequency following’ response, encouraging the brainwaves to align to the frequency of a given beat.
This ‘frequency following’ response of brainwave entrainment can be seen in action with those prone to epilepsy. If a strobe flashes at their seizure frequency, the brain will ‘entrain’ to the flashing light, resulting in a seizure.
On the positive side, this same mechanism is commonly used to induce many brainwave states; such as a trance, enhanced focus, relaxation, meditation or sleep induction. The brainwave entrainment effectively pushes the entire brain into a certain state.
Brainwave entrainment works for almost everyone. It is a great way to lead your mind into states that you might usually have difficulty reaching, allowing you to experience what those states feel like.
THE HYPE
There is a lot of marketing hype around brainwave entrainment. It is sold with promises of increasing IQ, promoting weight loss, ‘mind-tripping’, enhancing creativity, concentration, inducing spiritual states and more.
While these claims are not entirely true, they are not altogether false either. In practice, the claims are based on an overly-simplistic view of how the brain and the brainwaves function.
THE RUB
People are very seldom deficient in a certain brainwave type in all areas of their brain. Usually the distribution is much spottier, with an excess in one area and a deficiency in another.
We are all different, especially when it comes to the distribution of our brainwaves. Boosting a certain brainwave state may be beneficial for one person, and emotionally uncomfortable for another. Without knowing each person’s starting position, entrainment can be rather ‘hit and miss’.
If brainwave entrainment leaves you with unwanted side-effects (see below) or discomfort, you’re probably encouraging a range of brainwaves that are already excessive in some area of your brain. The way around this is to get a brain map to see what your brain’s strengths and weaknesses are, and see what (if any) brainwaves could use some encouragement.
