Brainwave entrainment is a method to stimulate the brain into entering a specific state by using a pulsing sound, light, or electromagnetic field. The pulses elicit the brain’s ‘frequency following’ response, encouraging the brainwaves to align to the frequency of a given beat.

What is brainwave entrainment? Not many people have come across this expression or are aware of what it is. Entrainment is what happens when two things of differing rhythms come together and then end up becoming synchronized with each others rhythms. An example of this is when a concert is happening and people beginning clapping in unison. It can be said that they have become collectively entrained to a specific frequency.
Brainwave entrainment is the rhythmic fluctuations that take place inside of our human brain. The fluctuation increases or lessens based mostly on what we observe or hear. The more rapid and speedier the variations around us, the steeper the variances are within our head. So now just what is entrainment? It is nothing at all but the synchronization of these rhythmic patterns…
Brainwave entrainment is nothing but the rhythmic variations that take place inside of our brain in synchronization with what we hear or discover. For example, when we take note of a drum-beat, we instantly start tapping our feet to the drum-beats. That feet-tapping is what transpires in our brain too in the form of brainwave fluctuation. The only distinction is that we are conscious of our feet tapping but not mindful of what is actually happening on the inside our head. Any audio or video, that is rhythmic and sequential in design, can show the way to brainwave entrainment.
We can at this moment take a look at a few of the resources used for brainwave entrainment.
1. Pictures: Generally there are several pictures that you might need to keenly observe for some quantity of time to cause brainwave entrainment. Those images might possibly be things such as a circular image with a dot in the middle, a star, an upside down triangle, etc. It is especially crucial that while people are watching some of these patterns or images, your attention is not disturbed. It is generally more effective trying this method in a location that is silent and free of most other disturbances.
2. Sounds: Right now there are brainwave entrainment soundtracks obtainable in the market place. When listening to an entrainment audio, it takes on average around 6 minutes for the brain to become entrained to a new frequency. The most popular frequency found in these audios, entrains the brain to the brain wave theta. Theta is most popular because it causes a relaxation mind and also allows the subconscious mind to be influenced easier than the other frequencies such as beta or gamma. This audios are great because they can be merged with regular music to get the same effect and they can also be merged with a hypnosis track which makes them highly effective as a reprogramming mind method.
Exercises such as watching the moon at nighttime continuously, staring at rain water flowing down ones own roof-tops at the time of monsoon, observing the pendulum of a wall clock move left and right, taking pleasure in the elegance of a flower swaying in the backyard wind, watching a table-tennis event and keenly seeing the motion of the ball in play closely are all strategies of brainwave entrainment. The calmness, enjoyment, immediate elimination from stress which we acquire after performing all these things is the outcome of brainwave entrainment. The lone distinction almost certainly is that we are simply not mindful of what is transpiring within our self, and this can be named as forms of brainwave entrainment.
Brainwave entrainment is a method to stimulate the brain into entering a specific state by using a pulsing sound, light, or electromagnetic field. The pulses elicit the brain’s ‘frequency following’ response, encouraging the brainwaves to align to the frequency of a given beat.
This ‘frequency following’ response of brainwave entrainment can be seen in action with those prone to epilepsy. If a strobe flashes at their seizure frequency, the brain will ‘entrain’ to the flashing light, resulting in a seizure.
On the positive side, this same mechanism is commonly used to induce many brainwave states; such as a trance, enhanced focus, relaxation, meditation or sleep induction. The brainwave entrainment effectively pushes the entire brain into a certain state.
Brainwave entrainment works for almost everyone. It is a great way to lead your mind into states that you might usually have difficulty reaching, allowing you to experience what those states feel like.
THE HYPE
There is a lot of marketing hype around brainwave entrainment. It is sold with promises of increasing IQ, promoting weight loss, ‘mind-tripping’, enhancing creativity, concentration, inducing spiritual states and more.
While these claims are not entirely true, they are not altogether false either. In practice, the claims are based on an overly-simplistic view of how the brain and the brainwaves function.
THE RUB
People are very seldom deficient in a certain brainwave type in all areas of their brain. Usually the distribution is much spottier, with an excess in one area and a deficiency in another.
We are all different, especially when it comes to the distribution of our brainwaves. Boosting a certain brainwave state may be beneficial for one person, and emotionally uncomfortable for another. Without knowing each person’s starting position, entrainment can be rather ‘hit and miss’.
If brainwave entrainment leaves you with unwanted side-effects (see below) or discomfort, you’re probably encouraging a range of brainwaves that are already excessive in some area of your brain. The way around this is to get a brain map to see what your brain’s strengths and weaknesses are, and see what (if any) brainwaves could use some encouragement.
