Brainwave entrainment is a method to stimulate the brain into entering a specific state by using a pulsing sound, light, or electromagnetic field. The pulses elicit the brain’s ‘frequency following’ response, encouraging the brainwaves to align to the frequency of a given beat.

The superiority of natural brainwave entrainment over hypnosis training in any form must first be viewed by reflecting upon the limited scope of mankind’s ability to understand the brain and it’s functions while taking into account the scramble that is occurring in the field of hypnosis to invade this knowledge and thereby attempt to control it. We know what the brain looks like and something regarding how it functions but what makes it function is a completely different question.
We know that the brain reacts to every sound we hear, every thing we see and every feeling we experience. The brain appears to process all of these things by compartmentalizing them into already established brainwave patterns or creating new ones. At this point in time, there is nothing known to man that those in the hypnosis field can do to duplicate this process and therefore the only avenue open to them is to attempt to invade and manipulate the natural process of brainwave activity.
It is only at the highest level of the gamma stage of brainwave activity where all of our thoughts and feelings become harmonized. While hypnosis needs to access this level in order to manipulate behavior and intellectual functioning it has been proven that only the lowest level of the Gamma stage can be accessed by artificial means.
The level of sub consciousness during any hypnotic state or trance depends upon how susceptible the individual is to being placed in a trance-like state. During the typical hypnotic state, the only brainwave stage which appears to be accessible is at what is called the alpha or at best the alpha-theta stage wherein the mind is alert but exhibits no mental processing or inner focus and only has a limited amount of memory recall function. Hypnosis really needs to be able to fully access the theta stage since this is where the memory’s total recall, the learning center and the harmonization of feelings and emotions occur not to mention that this is where the long-term memory functions and the ability to name objects resides.
Researchers and other members of the field of hypnosis have spent much time and energy to develop tools which will allow them to invade the field of brainwave technology and attempt to use those findings to gain superiority over brainwave entrainment. One of these tools is referred to as Ho-lo-sync Technology. The purpose of this technique is to attempt to alter the natural brainwave activity by altering the bin-aural beat and its ability to effect how fast or slow the brainwave patterns function. Another tool goes by the name of Psycho-acoustics through which different tones are sent to each ear in order to attempt to cause the bin-aural beat to alter the natural brainwave pattern.
It appears that the ultimate goal of the use of these tools is to successfully invade the field of brainwave technology and entrainment by altering the frequency of brainwave pattern, influence the pattern structure and by repetition of sounds to attempt to re-pattern the brainwaves themselves.
Hypnosis has been proven to be very dangerous where the subject has certain medical issues such as epilepsy, seizures or is under the influence of alcohol or drugs or under 18 years of age.
The superiority of natural brainwave entrainment over hypnosis training is proven by the mere fact that the brain is capable not only of the creation of brainwaves and bin-aural rhythms and maintaining harmony naturally but without invasion or intervention of an outside force which is the very basic requirement of hypnosis training.
Brainwave entrainment is a method to stimulate the brain into entering a specific state by using a pulsing sound, light, or electromagnetic field. The pulses elicit the brain’s ‘frequency following’ response, encouraging the brainwaves to align to the frequency of a given beat.
This ‘frequency following’ response of brainwave entrainment can be seen in action with those prone to epilepsy. If a strobe flashes at their seizure frequency, the brain will ‘entrain’ to the flashing light, resulting in a seizure.
On the positive side, this same mechanism is commonly used to induce many brainwave states; such as a trance, enhanced focus, relaxation, meditation or sleep induction. The brainwave entrainment effectively pushes the entire brain into a certain state.
Brainwave entrainment works for almost everyone. It is a great way to lead your mind into states that you might usually have difficulty reaching, allowing you to experience what those states feel like.
THE HYPE
There is a lot of marketing hype around brainwave entrainment. It is sold with promises of increasing IQ, promoting weight loss, ‘mind-tripping’, enhancing creativity, concentration, inducing spiritual states and more.
While these claims are not entirely true, they are not altogether false either. In practice, the claims are based on an overly-simplistic view of how the brain and the brainwaves function.
THE RUB
People are very seldom deficient in a certain brainwave type in all areas of their brain. Usually the distribution is much spottier, with an excess in one area and a deficiency in another.
We are all different, especially when it comes to the distribution of our brainwaves. Boosting a certain brainwave state may be beneficial for one person, and emotionally uncomfortable for another. Without knowing each person’s starting position, entrainment can be rather ‘hit and miss’.
If brainwave entrainment leaves you with unwanted side-effects (see below) or discomfort, you’re probably encouraging a range of brainwaves that are already excessive in some area of your brain. The way around this is to get a brain map to see what your brain’s strengths and weaknesses are, and see what (if any) brainwaves could use some encouragement.
