Brainwave Entrainment Problem Solving With the Law of Attraction

Brainwave entrainment is a method to stimulate the brain into entering a specific state by using a pulsing sound, light, or electromagnetic field. The pulses elicit the brain’s ‘frequency following’ response, encouraging the brainwaves to align to the frequency of a given beat.

So, if The Universal Law of Attraction can bring you anything that you want, it can fix your problems, right? Well of course; as a Universal Law, The Law of Attraction has to bring you more of anything that has your attention. So, if you have something going on in your life that you DO NOT LIKE (let us call it a problem), then through your continued attention to it, The Universe will bring you more of the same, i.e. more problems, more issues of a similar nature, interactions with friends and acquaintances who can share the experience with you, or at the very least you will have a continuation of the same problem. A vibration of difficulty in any area of your life will bring you more connections and circumstances that match that vibration. Now that may not be exactly what you had in mind, when you are wanting to solve your problem, because what you really want is a SOLUTION! It is really important to understand that the vibration of solution has a different feel altogether, so let us compare the two and have a look at how this works:

Imagine for a moment that you have some kind of domestic disaster on your hands and it needs to be fixed – now! It could be a financially costly disaster, but it is certainly one that costs you in time and causes you a fair bit of stress. So you get into stewing and fretting over it, then when asked by a friend, neighbour, or colleague how you are, you let them know how you are BEING, i.e. you are stewing, worrying and complaining about this very live issue. You are putting out a strong message to The Universe, in no uncertain terms, that you are having a hard time. Now, have you ever noticed that problems can sometimes come along in twos and threes? When you give your attention to a problem, there is often an accompanying feeling of sinking and a grey cloud over your head; there can be all-consuming stressing about it, a sense of being swallowed up by the thing, a desire to know as much about the problem as you possibly can, together with a desperate need to find a solution to THE PROBLEM! Where is your FOCUS? Given that The Universal Law of Attraction has only one job and that is to expand what you are giving your attention to, what do you think is the only thing that can happen now?!

So, how then do we get to a SOLUTION to our problem? When our attention turns more towards the possibility of a SOLUTION, than the having of the PROBLEM, there is a definite change in our direction, followed by a feeling of relief, an improvement in our mood, an inner knowing that this will all get handled at some point, a feeling that you are bigger than this situation, that there are many others who have sorted out far more complicated problems than this one, that there has got to be a way out, that where there is a will, there is a way and eventually you find yourself arriving at a much calmer place of trusting that this too will pass. Feel the difference in the vibration that is on offer. We are going in an entirely different direction; now we are talking. The Law of Attraction is then able to bring you more comforting thoughts, together with some refreshing and practical ideas, there will be more connections with those who have useful information for you, more ways of moving onwards and upwards; then those people who were so interested in commiserating are no longer a match to you and so they just fade away into the background. Then you are on your way; that’s the spirit! The Law of Attraction is in full force, taking you towards your desired outcome, by bringing together flash brainwave ideas, easy ways out, effective DIY measures, referrals, useful contacts and so on.

The Law of Attraction is ALWAYS responding to our thoughts and feelings, expanding where we have put our attention, so the lesson here is to ALWAYS FOCUS on WHAT WE WANT, rather than what we do not want.

Brainwave entrainment is a method to stimulate the brain into entering a specific state by using a pulsing sound, light, or electromagnetic field. The pulses elicit the brain’s ‘frequency following’ response, encouraging the brainwaves to align to the frequency of a given beat.

This ‘frequency following’ response of brainwave entrainment can be seen in action with those prone to epilepsy. If a strobe flashes at their seizure frequency, the brain will ‘entrain’ to the flashing light, resulting in a seizure.

On the positive side, this same mechanism is commonly used to induce many brainwave states; such as a trance, enhanced focus, relaxation, meditation or sleep induction. The brainwave entrainment effectively pushes the entire brain into a certain state.

Brainwave entrainment works for almost everyone. It is a great way to lead your mind into states that you might usually have difficulty reaching, allowing you to experience what those states feel like.

THE HYPE
There is a lot of marketing hype around brainwave entrainment. It is sold with promises of increasing IQ, promoting weight loss, ‘mind-tripping’, enhancing creativity, concentration, inducing spiritual states and more.

While these claims are not entirely true, they are not altogether false either. In practice, the claims are based on an overly-simplistic view of how the brain and the brainwaves function.
THE RUB
People are very seldom deficient in a certain brainwave type in all areas of their brain. Usually the distribution is much spottier, with an excess in one area and a deficiency in another.

We are all different, especially when it comes to the distribution of our brainwaves. Boosting a certain brainwave state may be beneficial for one person, and emotionally uncomfortable for another. Without knowing each person’s starting position, entrainment can be rather ‘hit and miss’.

If brainwave entrainment leaves you with unwanted side-effects (see below) or discomfort, you’re probably encouraging a range of brainwaves that are already excessive in some area of your brain. The way around this is to get a brain map to see what your brain’s strengths and weaknesses are, and see what (if any) brainwaves could use some encouragement.

So, here’s the deal.

Our brains are like massive antennas, absorbing all the frequencies that the world puts out on a daily basis. Car alarms, dumptrucks, chainsaws, weed-whackers, noisy kids, nosy old ladies, bosses who don’t listen, coworkers who constantly interrupt you as you’re speaking, rainy days, love handles, bad coffee, chunky milk — each of these can leave a lasting mark on your being. Ever catch yourself grumbling after you realize you’ve been sipping on a chunky latte for the past 15 minutes? That grumbling is your body’s way of embracing negative emotions. These stick around, build up, little by little, until you end up on the news with ten cameras and twenty cops coaxing you to come down from the water tower and just give in. But do you? No, you stay up on that water tower, and probably end up killing yourself, all because Todd in Accounting wouldn’t let you get a friggin’ word in edge-wise.

This doesn’t have to be the case. While it’s impossible to remove all daily stresses, short of moving to the mountains and living in a cave, it is possible to increase your body’s capacity to handle the negative, and that’s where Binaural Brainwave Meditation comes in. You just slip on a pair of headphones, and listen to the sounds of nature as the near-inaudible binaural beats cause your brain to slip out of its normal mode of operation and into a slightly different, slightly more effective state of awareness.

You start off lying in bed, staring at the ceiling, wondering what it is that you’re doing. You start hearing the sound of the rain, and realize that you’re in your room listening to the sounds of the rain. You begin to become at ease, your body relaxes, your eyes begin to close naturally. Five minutes in, you start to notice a slight buzzing sound — this is the binaural technology kicking in. Your brain suddenly comes across this new pattern, and like a curious cat, it starts paying more and more attention to how the pattern is structured. Instead of a buzzing, you start to hear a hum, then a low tone, and eventually nothing, as you begin to realize that you are breathing at an extremely calm pace. Your awareness begins to expand, and you feel your feet, then the rest of your body, then a sense of peace begins to grow, and the program truly begins.

Each program has the ability, granted that you have the willingness, to take you on a different journey. Programs range from out-of-body awareness (believe me, this one is killer) to stress-reduction to auto-immune system boosters. The true key is whether or not you’re willing to put a little bit of faith into it, or, at the very least, enter with an open mind. If you’re a cynically closed-minded individual, you wouldn’t be reading this anymore now would you 🙂

Now, the last kick. This technology has a price to it. It is possible to go out and get free stuff, and believe me, I’ve tried it — the problem is that the quality is suffering, and free programs oftentimes are not tuned properly to bring your brain in and out of the proper range of frequencies. I’ve found a company who I fully support who has made the leap to bring this technology out into the open, at a reasonable price, with a no-nonsense money back guarantee if it doesn’t work for you. Settle your curiosity and embrace the now. Check out my signature for details. Try it, and good luck =)

So! You’re looking at a sheet of paper or at the computer screen screaming for that idea to just jump out at you. You’re being driven nuts. Nothing is forthcoming! Does that sound familiar?

It’s a misconception that it is only the chosen few who are creative; we all have the ability. Those creative people who you perceive as being different to yourself are just consciously utilising and developing their skills. Harnessing our inbuilt creativity is a matter of applying the creative powers that we all have and ridding ourselves of negative thoughts.

OK, so we’ve discovered that accessing good ideas is not an easy task. There is some truth in the saying that there are no new ideas only revamped old ideas. However, there are some techniques that can be attempted to get the creative juices flowing.

Think Outside-of-the-Box. Maybe you apply yourself to your particular craft in exactly the same way each time. ‘Think outside of the box’ as they say. Try alternative ways of doing the things that you always do the same, just because you always do it that way may be hindering you in thinking of new ideas. Revisit some old ideas and think of some potentially new uses for them, maybe some up to date changes that you hadn’t previously thought of. You could arrive at that light bulb moment if you come at it from a different angle.

Jump-Start Your Brain.Wherever you usually source your information from, try somewhere completely unrelated to your chosen subject to jump-start your brain into another direction. Doing this can quite possibly give you the inspiration you need and kick-start your creative mind.

Get Out Of Your Comfort Zone. It’s time to start doing some things that are out of your comfort zone. If you don’t usually talk to neighbors get out and chat to them, try a different newspaper, watch programs you wouldn’t normally watch, visit places like museums and exhibitions to help stimulate your thoughts and ideas.

Change Your Environment.Get a different perspective by altering your room around and changing the things on your desk. Even looking at another wall or out of a different window can assist in getting the creativity going.

Brainwave Entrainment. It has been discovered through scientific studies that people are experiencing particular brainwave traits during times of extreme idea generation and creativity. By listening to specific repetitive beats called brainwave entrainment, it’s now possible to achieve the highly creative state of mind that inventors, artists, writers and great thinkers take for granted.

Taking all or at least some of these suggestions on board should alter your mindset and put you in the ‘getting creative’ zone.

So you’ve had a great new product idea, but what do you do next? Thousands of new products are launched every year but the journey from concept to market is not as easy or as straightforward as it appears. Many people think that there must be hundreds of people just waiting to give inventors bucket loads of money to develop the next big thing, but in reality it’s not quite like that.

But it’s not all bad news. There are many individual investors, like the dragons on Dragon’s Den, and also several investor funds which support inventors with new ideas. There are also companies who license new ideas from individuals and small businesses. However these are serious business men and they require a genuine business proposition not just a back of an envelope sketch before they part of their hard earned cash. So how do you go about turning your idea into a viable, investable concept that will impress industry or investors?

Well, in all likelihood your funds will be limited compared to what a company may invest in new product development. And, even if your funds aren’t limited, you will probably want to minimise the money you put in upfront until genuine commercial interest has been established. So what is minimum requirement to turn your idea into a viable commercial proposition? Well basically you will need to answer three questions before being able to sell your idea or gain investment:

1. Is the idea protectable?
No company will license your idea, and neither will an investor back it, unless it can be protected to stop every other company producing the same product. You also don’t want to risk your idea being taken by a potential licensee or investor and so protecting the idea is a must.
In light of the last point, it is best to protect the idea yourself before presenting to potentially interested parties. A confidentiality agreement, a global patent search, patent pending status and a registered design application are all potentially essential elements to protecting your idea. Professional advice, from a Chartered Patent Attorney, on how to protect your specific idea is the most sensible route to go with this. (See the links at the end of this article.)

2. Will it work?
In some cases the answer to this question is a simple yes, but in some cases you will need to prove that your brainwave is possible. The best way to answer this question is to be able to present a working prototype. The prototype does not have to look attractive – it just needs to prove the functionality. If funds don’t stretch to a prototype, then a feasibility report detailing an independent viewpoint from a qualified professional on the viability of the idea may have to suffice. Always ensure a confidentiality agreement is in place before revealing your idea to anyone at all, other than Chartered Patent Attorneys.

3. Will anyone buy it?
This is the hardest question to answer. Once you have proved your idea works, if necessary, and sorted out adequate protection you are in a strong position to start answering this question. As seen on Dragon’s Den, the best answer to this question is to have letter of intent that state a retailer or distributor is prepared to buy x number of your product at x price. The way to achieve a letter of intent is to present your idea to as many different buyers as possible. The difficulty is that retailers and distributors will need more than your rough sketch, patent application or working model. They need to impressed by the idea and instantly see it’s potential. To do this you will probably need a product sell sheet.

A product sell sheet highlights the main features and benefits of your idea and includes images of your product as it is likely to look once it has been manufactured. You will need a professional product designer to either sketch and present your concept or ideally create a 3D model using computer aided design (CAD) and render it to look like the final product.

Then you need to get your product in front of potential buyers. Trade shows, face-to-face meetings, and direct mailings are all ways to approach industry representatives. A good sell sheet will do most of the talking for you, so don’t be nervous.

Case Study

The product is a device that fits in the boot of a car to hold equipment. (Any more detail than this is still confidential at this stage.)

The first step was to conduct a global patent search to ensure patenting was an option. The search came back relativity clear and so the idea was developed to ensure it was possible using a product designer under a confidentiality agreement. Once developed adequately using CAD, a patent was drafted and filed by a Patent Attorney. The CAD model was then used to create a product sell sheet which was presented to Halfords among other retailers. Halfords wrote a letter of intent for an initial batch of a thousand units.

The inventor now had: patent pending on his idea; a global patent search indicating the patent was likely to be granted; an impressive sell sheet describing the product and a letter of intent. He now had everything he needed to secure investment to manufacture his product and set up his own company. Alternatively he could have used these tools to pursue to licensing deal with a product manufacturer.

In conclusion, your job is just to spark the interest of a potential licensee or investor who will ensure that your idea makes you a profit. To do this you need to answer three main questions: is it protectable, will it work and will anyone buy it. Professional help will be required, most likely, to answer these questions but the process described in this article should keep these fees to a minimum while maximising your likelihood of success.

So you’ve gotten to the point where you feel you need to make a change in your life. Whether it’s to quit smoking, improve your self-esteem, or just get your memory working, you set out on the road to self-improvement. But with your busy lifestyle, you don’t have the time (or money) to seek out a therapist, or take relaxation classes, or anything like that. And so you find yourself at what seems like a perfect solution – self help audio! But can self help audio really help you change your life? Well, it depends on what you’re using.

Self-Help audio books are extremely popular for the average joe. You have someone telling you all about the great things in life that you can listen to on your way to work. Although there is a great deal of advice out there, people still find themselves failing using self help audio books. Why? Well, getting there takes action and a change of habit, which many find very difficult to do consistently.

Then we move onto hypnosis. Hypnosis is very much seen as a very popular solution to changing your life. By allowing yourself to enter a trance-like state, your brain is then receptive to powerful suggestions to help you beat whatever habit you’re trying to kick. The key here, however, is you have to allow your brain to relax to respond to the suggestions. There are people that just can’t relax enough to allow hypnosis to truly work, and they become frustrated when it doesn’t work for them.

Wouldn’t it be perfect if there was a self help audio solution that broke past the “habit” barrier? Something that removed the obstacles of traditional self help audio that would allow you to change your life with minimal effort?

What if I told you such a solution existed?

So you have just returned home from your third meeting with your child’s teacher. She tells you that your child is not getting his work done, he cannot sit still, and he is simply not going to have any success in school unless something changes. She suggests that you talk to someone to see if he has ADHD. What do you do next? This can certainly be a difficult time in any family, so we would not want you to be uninformed as you take the next important steps. Here are the things that we recommend if you have a child that ought to be looked at for possible Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. First, there should be an “adequate” physical exam by the child’s pediatrician or family practice doctor. This doesn’t have to be an extensive, expensive exam, but should be able to rule out possible problems like Mononucleosis, Thyroid problems, lead poisoning (if it is common in your area), and potential attention problems caused by medications, such as allergy medications. Then, with a clean bill of health, we move on to step two. Second, get an evaluation for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Usually a psychologist or other mental health professional will do this evaluation for ADD ADHD. But please, only get counseling or therapy from professionals who have a lot of experience treating attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Therapists who do not have a lot of experience with ADD ADHD will just take your money and then probably blame you, the parents, for the child’s disorder. Find experts on attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in your area. Ask around at your local CHADD chapter. Call you local Psychiatric Hospital and ask for the Child or Adolescent Unit. Then ask for the “Charge Nurse.” Ask the Charge Nurse who the best psychiatrists and therapists in your town are. They know. The Evaluation When you get an evaluation for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, there should be a good parent interview. It’s absolutely essential that somebody sits down with the parents and spends 45 minutes to an hour with them. The psychologist or therapist needs to find out what’s going on now, why did the parents pick up the phone and call now instead of last week, and so on. A good developmental history on the child must also be taken. Important questions are: How did mom do during pregnancy?
Were there any problems at all during pregnancy?
Was there any exposure to drugs or alcohol prior to birth?
When did he learn to walk or crawl?
How about speech development, any problems?
Did he have very many ear infections?
Have there been any head injuries, high fevers, or seizures? Head injuries and seizures can look just like attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, but aren’t. They may require different treatment options. Then a good family history is great. The family trees of Attention Deficit Disorder kids are often very similar. Look at one and you may say, “Gee, there’s no wonder this kid has it,” because most of the time, about 80 percent of the time, you can trace the impact of this gene as it runs through families causing things like depression, obsessive-compulsiveness, alcoholism, attention disorders or learning disabilities throughout the family. The clinician must also know: Is child depressed?
Does he have anxiety problems?
Is he hallucinating?
Is he delusional?
Is it a head injury?
Is it a seizure disorder? Parent rating scales are very good and should be given. The ADHD scales we like are by Ned Owens out of Texas. Keith Connors has a fine tool that you have probably seen if you are involved with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder children at all. It is very important for the parents to fill out these behavior rating scales. Ideally the teachers will fill them out also. You want the teacher’s input because they see 30, 32, or 35 kids every single day, year in and year out, and they know what is normal behavior and what is not. Note: One of the things we have noticed is that lately we are having more trouble with the teacher rating scales because the teachers ten years ago, eight years ago, five years ago used to rate the kids pretty reliably compared with the “normal” kids in the class, the non-ADD kids in the class. But what we are seeing lately is very often the teachers are comparing the child that we want rated against the “worst kid” in the class, who might be totally off the wall. And so the rating scale comes back reporting that the child we want rated isn’t much of a problem at all. We have to give directions to the teachers to rate them versus “normal kids,” not against the “worst kids” in the class. Also, an in-depth clinical interview with the child is important. This interview is needed to determine the child’s reality testing, his degree of maturity, his degree of verbal skills, and so on. Ask the child if he’s hallucinating. Sometimes he is, but he hasn’t told anyone. Ask the child if he’s anxious. Some kids have tremendous fears, but have not shared them with anyone. There is a lot going on with kids that their parents are not aware of. Psychological Testing for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder – ADHD Psychological testing as part of an evaluation for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder can be helpful. We used to give tests such as the WISC-R, an IQ test, the Wide Range Achievement Test (WRAT), and the Bender-Gestalt test, which is a visual motor integration test. Bored already? Well, they are boring things. But they can be helpful. There are certain patterns that one might expect on these tests if the subject had attention deficit hyperactivity disorder of some type. But it’s art, not science at that point. The patterns are not “diagnostic” for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. It’s also important to know if the kid has a real low IQ, or a major learning disability. It could be a clue that there is something else going on instead of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. What we find to be very valuable is the Test of Variables of Attention (TOVA). The TOVA is an extremely boring computer test that requires the kids to respond to a target stimulus by pressing a button, or to not respond when there’s a non-target stimulus. The fact that it is so boring is a work of genius because it helps to differentiate between kids who have trouble with “boring,” and kids who do all right with “boring.” The TOVA is really a terrific tool, but it should never be given just by itself. It needs to be given in the context of the whole diagnostic workup. Also, the TOVA can be given with no medication, and then if medication is going to be used down the road, given again with medication in their system. This can tell the clinician if the subject is at the right dosage or not, or how well he responds to that particular dose of that particular medication. The TOVA is a very helpful tool. Clinical observation of the child is very important. If possible, ideally, somebody observes the child in the classroom. In the real world, we don’t know anybody in private practice who can go out in the classroom to observe a child these days, but if a school nurse or school psychologist can go observe them, it can be very, very helpful. Obtaining an EEG from a neurologist is rarely helpful. EEGs will show differences from non-ADD children. Typically there is excessive slow brainwave activity, particularly in the Theta band (4-7 Hz.). However, ninety-five percent of all Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder kids have “normal” EEGs. What we mean by “normal” is they don’t have big epileptic spikes, or things like that, that a neurologist would say are “abnormal.” But when you compare them side by side with a non-ADD kid, they are much different. An EEG may be helpful if the child is going to be treated with EEG biofeedback, but in terms of being helpful for a diagnostic work-up, it is rarely helpful. However, if the parent interview revealed that the child had some potential neurological problem, as seen in sleep walking, or a history of seizures, and so on, then an EEG would be a good idea. In summary, then, an adequate diagnostic interview, designed to give an accurate diagnosis a very high percentage of the time, while not costing the family thousands of dollars, would look like this: Physical Exam – Office Visit
Clinical Interview – Parents (45-60 minutes)
Clinical Interview – Child (45-60 minutes)
TOVA test
Parent and Teacher Rating Scales
Office visit to review information and develop a treatment plan
Begin Treatment That’s it! If there are further diagnostic questions, then more testing would be required. But in the majority of cases, this is all that is needed to make a highly reliable diagnosis. Except for the physician’s examination, the cost for this should be about $500-$700.

So you have a dog? A puppy? They are the sweetest little animals aren’t they? Personally I think every home needs to have a pet from all different reasons. Some say they are very good companions, others say they are man’s best friends and you may even hear that they draw the negative energy around themselves and transform it into positive. But dogs are not people. When you live with them they tend to do it the dog way and not your way. If you want the pet to behave the way you want it to behave it is going to require some practice and training.

Dog training is one of the oldest techniques man has ever learned. It is sometimes compared to art, but really it is only a way to communicate to your dog in its own language. Because you see dogs and the other home pets do not understand what the owner wants them to do or not do. So like with any other being in the planet you have to communicate to get to the same brainwave altitude.

The first thing you want to do with your pet is to make an environmental friendly area to talk. That means you need to grab his attention and make him listen to what you have to explain to him. The real trick here is to make him focused for a longer period of time which is very hard to do since dogs especially do not like being focused. To do this you can be creative and think of something that would get him for a little while and repeat that same thing over and over again.

For example some people have tried, and it works, to click with their fingers when they give command to the dog. You click your fingers and tell him to maybe sit or lay down, then again and again until he does it professionally. Remember always that this requires patience and if you are not a very calmed person don’t even start. Every time the dog does the command right you must give him a reward. The best reward for pets is of course food. Not to get him stuffed but just a little to let him know he is a good dog.

Like humans dogs have a character too. So they too can be stubborn or free-minded but they are also loyal obedient loving and caring. Learn what type of dog you have at home and educate yourself about them so that you learn about his personal characteristics. The more you understand your dog the better and sooner he will start to listen and obey you, even like the commands you are giving him.

So you are fed up with the 9 to 5 and want to start your own business but just haven’t had that brainwave yet and can’t come up with an idea of just what to do; you just know that you want to be your own boss! Hopefully these7 small business start up ideas will help.

Frozen Yogurt – The US market alone is now worth around £4.9 billion.

Independent coffee shops – This market is forecast to grow by 25% by 2014.

Dance and fitness – This proved a highly successful combination in 2011 which looks set to continue.

Social gaming – With billions of hours being spent on social gaming on Facebook alone, and the number of Facebook users projected to increase to over a billion by the middle of this year, this is market looks set to grow significantly.

Mobile apps – 183 billion apps are expected to have been downloaded by 2015 according to a global market intelligence firm.

Smartphone repairs – Due to the rise in demand for smart phones, this seems like a great opportunity.

Cycling – With the rising cost of petrol, more people are resorting to cycling and this will lead to lots of opportunities for small businesses in the area of repair and maintenance, for example, as well as sales.

And if you have a hobby or really enjoy craftwork and are good at it, why not turn it into a business? It’s an interesting fact that despite the downturn in the economy, the hobby and craft industry is one area which has been experiencing a boom.

The above are only the tip of the iceberg but if you genuinely believe that you have it in you to start and run your own business then the idea really has to come from you; you have to be passionate about it; it has to inspire and motivate you and be something that you will enjoy working long hours at; something that you can develop your own clear brand for and know that you can talk about with ease; and of course, it has to be something that you can visualise being a success. The next step is to carry out thorough market research because while you are obviously passionate about your idea, it will only be a success if it is something that other people want to buy. And then, with a bit of hard work, success will follow.

“Whenever you see a successful business, someone once made a courageous decision.”

So what is GAD?

GAD is a feeling of apprehension and fear characterized by physical symptoms such as heart palpitations, sweating, and feeling out of control, stressed and overwhelmed. Anxiety disorders are serious medical illnesses that affect many people in South Africa in particular due to increasing stress at work, conflict at home and trauma in our country. Anxiety fills people’s lives with overwhelming fear that does not seem to be rational or fixable by pure mind power. Unlike the relatively mild, brief anxiety caused by a stressful event such as a business presentation or a first date, anxiety disorders are chronic, relentless, and can grow progressively worse if not treated.

GAD can affect our whole being, how we feel, how we behave and has very real physical symptoms. It feels a bit like fear but whereas we know what we are frightened of, we often don’t know what we are anxious about.

What causes anxiety?

Stressors in our lives often trigger anxiety. Some of us are more vulnerable to anxiety than others and “negative self-talk” can make it worse as we can develop the habit of always telling ourselves that the worst will happen. Your brain gets used to functioning in this stressed and anxious state and creates new pathways that it uses over and over again. This manifests anxiety and it can grow in intensity over time.

How will I recognize anxiety?

The following are possible physical symptoms:

· Tense muscles

· Trembling

· Churning stomach

· Nausea, diarrhoea

· Backache, headache

· Heart palpitations

· Numbness or “pins and needles” in arms, hands or legs

· Sweating/flushing

Often people mistake those symptoms of anxiety for a serious physical illness and become worried that they might be having a heart attack or a stroke as those can have similar symptoms.

When is anxiety a problem?

We all become anxious from time to time. It is normal to become anxious if there is a real trigger. But anxiety becomes a problem when it interferes with life without there being an actual trigger, it is a problem when it goes on too long and when we cannot control it any more.

How can you overcome anxiety:

Does avoidance help?

Unfortunately, avoiding situations that make you anxious might help you feel better in the short term but not in the long term. The trouble is the anxiety keeps returning, and can spread to other situations. Like my client Rita, 37 (name changed)) who was raped when she was a teenager coming home from a party. The man who raped her was an acquaintance of hers who had dropped her off at home and forced himself on her. The man is a good runner who runs at the beachfront on a regular basis. After the incident she started to avoid the beach as it made her feel very anxious when thinking of bumping into him. As time went on, she started to avoid all the beaches in the country, as she was never sure if she would see him at any one of them. The thought of seeing him made her feel so anxious that she decided not to wear costumes any more or go close to water related areas, such as beaches or pools. She developed a deep unhappiness in her life, which spread into her work life and family life. In addition she started to gain weight, as she didn’t want any man to think that she was good looking- subconsciously hoping to avoid a repeat of this terrible incident. Unpacking all the deeper layers of her anxiety allowed her to feel free and regain her control in her life. She is feeling much calmer, happier, is able to lose weight and can go wherever she chooses to go. Rita needed only a few hypnotherapy and counselling sessions to overcome her anxiety.

OK, so what can we do to feel better?

· Identify your stressors in your life. Write them down and see what you can do to overcome them. Keep an eye on stressors such as pressures and deadlines and make a commitment to taking time out from study or work. Time management is very important to decrease stress and anxiety.

· Learn to say “no”. Many people feel anxious because they want to please others and cannot say “no”. Learning to say “no” can help you to have less time pressure, to able to complete tasks on time, feel that you are actually achieving more and gain respect from others again as you can now honour your commitments and fulfil them.

· Learn a variety of relaxation techniques. Physical relaxation methods and meditation techniques really do help. Use some guided relaxation CDs or go to a hypnotherapy session, which is incredible to de-stress and overcome anxiety.

· Look after your physical health. Eat healthily (avoid sugar), get regular exercise and try to keep a regular sleep pattern.

· Practise deep abdominal breathing. This consists of breathing in deeply and slowly through your nose, taking the air right down to you abdomen. Breathe in slowly, count to 5 and breath out slowly again counting to 5. Try to focus on your breathing at least 3 times a day. Breathing techniques can be more powerful than tranquilizers according to different research studies.

· Be mindful of what you are thinking. We tend to be our own worst enemy. We can have a lot of negative thoughts in our mind that can decrease our self-esteem and make us feel anxious. Would you ever say all those nasty things to a friend? If your answer is no, then why do you say them to yourself? Learn to replace “negative self talk” with “positive self talk.” It is useful to make a list of the negative thoughts you often have and write a list of positive, believable thoughts to replace them. Use them over and over like a broken record in your mind.

Train your brain: When measuring the brainwaves of a person who has high levels of anxiety, it can be seen that there are high beta brainwaves on many points in the brain. Those fast beta brainwaves cause anxiety, stress and ruminations. The longer we have those stressed brainwaves, the more we create faulty pathways in the brain. Our brain can unlearn to relax if there is prolonged anxiety and stress in our lives. Often people start to take tranquilizers to feel a sense of calm and to be able to switch off to sleep. Medication is not always necessary, has side-effect(effects) and can be habit forming. Neurofeedback training is a form of brain training that can help your brain to change. It can calm your brainwaves down and create new, better pathways. Neurofeedback training is like going to gym for your brain. It takes a number of sessions to re-wire and strengthen your brain. Training is safe, long lasting and fun. Try it out, as there are no side effects, when choosing an experienced and qualified practitioner who uses internationally recognised medical devices.

Anxiety can be exhausting and debilitating. There is no need to keep on suffering from anxiety any more. I have had so many clients who thought that they had to live with this feeling until they die- this is not true. Now that you know what anxiety is, where it comes from and what can be done about it, it is time to take the control back over your life and start living.

So what is does it mean to be healthy? To attain a perfect state of health, one has to remain mentally calm, steady, and emotionally stable. The best way to do this is to bring more life force or chi energy into your body. Chi energy is consciousness energy it flows all throughout nature and it represents the very breath of god. It helps you feel more alert, energetic, and full of good humor. A lack of chi results in fatigue, depression, and decreased motivation.

There are numerous ways to bring chi energy into your body including; yoga, breathing exercises, sun gazing, and praying over your food, and of course meditation.

Meditation itself is easy to do and doesn’t have to be complicated. It can be as simple as clearing your mind and not thinking about anything for about 20 minutes a day. This is called mindfulness technique. This technique is probably not the best choice for those new to simply because it is very difficult to do. For example try to clear your mind for the next 20 seconds. Don’t think of anything, go ahead and try it… Now try that for 20 minutes.

But there are many other methods that are much easier to do such as Mindfulness Technique which involves repeating a mantra or symbol image in your mind to help clear your thoughts. If you find your mind wandering simply repeat the mantra to bring it back on track.

There are also guided technique. These usually are pre-recorded and played back on a CD or cassette. They may involve relaxation exercises and guided imagery into different places and times. Content varies as much as your imagination, from boosting your sex drive to activating your DNA. These exercises are great for beginners as it teaches proper breathing techniques, posture, and how to relax in general.

Meditation Techniques for Beginners:

The key to deep relaxation is reaching a level of your mind that is between alpha and theta brainwaves as measured on an EEG (electroencephalography). This state of mind feels like a daydream. During guided it’s hard to reach this level of mind as you’re constantly being distracted or “guided” along. So the best technique for beginners would be a mix of guided imagery to help you reach a deep level of relaxation, which would then switch into quiet or calm music to help you reach the theta brainwave.

Studies have shown a minimum of 11 minutes of meditation per day is the minimum time needed to achieve full benefits. But even if you don’t have 11 minutes a day, start out with 5 minutes and slowly work your way up. Find a place that is quiet and without distractions such as your bedroom and make it part of your daily routine.

Energy Healing Techniques:
Energy healing is just another way to use chi energy to bring balance your body’s natural equilibrium on not only the physical dimension but also the soul or psyche level. Within the body, chi energy is stored in the chakras which are like vortexes of energy and the area around them known as your aura. Negative thoughts, emotions, trauma, and even physical violence can cause holes and unharmonious patterns of chi within your aura. This usually results in depression, disease, and if severe enough demonic possession.

To correct this problem the first step is to recognise the problem. Understand you are a spiritual being and not a physical being. What thoughts you project into the universe is returned back to you in your aura through the law of attraction. Once you realize you have the power to change your DNA blueprint then you can open up the door to healing. The next step is to surrender and release. All of us have made mistakes it is this learning process which brings us soul growth. By letting go of fear and anger and allowing yourself to feel love and give love you are embracing the universal energy frequency of god. We are all connected through chi energy in a divine universal consciousness energy field. We are all one! “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one! You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.”(Deut. 6:4-5)

Open Eye Meditation:
Open eye technique helps unlock your multidimensional consciousness allowing you to see into the spirit realm. This involves meditating with eyes open into a blank area. To try this exercise place an object on both the left and right side of your field of vision and focus into a blank area in between these objects. These two objects help occupy your mind by focusing on two different things at the same time. This helps you release worry and discomfort while opening up your third eye.
